A new trail celebrating Conwy’s seafood, coastal heritage and the businesses connected to the sea is being launched this weekend.
The Conwy Seafood Trail will officially launch on Conwy Quay on Saturday, September 12, with a free event running from midday until 5pm.
The trail has been developed using the Gwynedd Seafood Trail as a model and is part of the wider Seafood Trail Cymru initiative, which aims to connect visitors with the people, businesses and products behind North Wales’ seafood industry.
It has been developed in partnership with Bangor University's School of Ocean Sciences, with £79,500 in funding from the Welsh Government and WCVA Coastal Capacity Building Fund.
The funding is intended to strengthen local supply chains, raise awareness of the marine environment and support coastal communities through education, tourism and collaboration.
The launch will include live cookery demonstrations from local chefs, including Bryn Williams, along with an oyster-shucking demonstration and a sushi masterclass.
There will also be live music from the Conwy Seadogs, while a number of local businesses and community organisations will have stalls and information stands.
Visitors will be able to find out more about seafood production, the marine environment and Conwy's coastal history, with organisations including Bangor University's School of Ocean Sciences, Natural Resources Wales' Coastal Path Team, Seafood Trail Cymru and Visit Conwy taking part.
The event will also offer a chance to look behind the scenes at some of Conwy's maritime industries. Tours of Conwy Mussels will be available, while visitors can meet members of the crew at Conwy RNLI Lifeboat Station.
Councillor Sharon Doleman, Conwy County Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy and Communications, said the trail would showcase the people, businesses and traditions associated with the county's coastline.
She said it would also encourage visitors to explore different parts of the county and support the local economy, while highlighting the role seafood plays in Conwy's culture and heritage.
The launch is free to attend.
There is also an opportunity to take part in a 90-minute Fishing Taster Experience with Conwy Boat Trips. Trips leave at 10.15am and 12 noon and are being offered at a subsidised price with support from WCVA funding. Places need to be booked in advance.
